Happy Tuesday!
I have some super-sweet news to share, or maybe you have already heard me screaming from the rooftops?
My video, "Supernatural" won "Best Music Video" at the Wildwood Film Festival in March! Created in dynamic collaboration with filmmaker Jocelyne Berumen of Cyclops Girl Productions and her fantastic cast and crew*, I am so excited to see Jocelyne receive this honor! So, so cool, and especially fun at the "annual celebration of Wisconsin filmmaking!" Well done, dear Jocelyne!

Following that up, a few nights ago I opened an email from a contest I entered last October. It had been so long I had forgotten, assuming I hadn't done very well. I was soooo surprised to read:
"I'm happy to inform you that your song ‘Supernatural’ has been selected by our judges as a Top 5 Winner in the Adult Contemporary category of the 20th Annual Great American Song Contest.
Judges praised “Supernatural” for its “distinctively engaging theme, appealing lyrical imagery and smartly crafted melodic design.”
Congratulations on your excellent songwriting, Randi & Aaron. Last year’s competition was particularly strong in your category, making your achievement all the more impressive. Nice job!"
Wait, WUT?? This is honestly pretty huge, as it is a national contest, and just WOW. I am so excited!! Also, I am thrilled that it is a prize for our songwriting, receiving the designation of "Outstanding Achievement in Songwriting." I have been working so hard to hone my skills, and this is quite the acknowledgment!!
Songwriting is much more than randomly sitting on a bed with a notepad scribbling ideas with a tune in my head. It may START there, but then the work begins, and it is rarely a solo act. Creating "Supernatural" was an amazing professional interplay of behind-the-scene talent. If you are "the average of the five people you spend the most time with," then I have substantially raised my rating working with these five people: Aaron Zinsmeister (co-writer/orchestrater/sound engineer and producer), Jocelyne Berumen (video producer), Tim Perkins (bassist), Shane Adams(songwriting coach) and Lisa Haupert (vocal coach). It took almost two years to go from conception to release, including fighting laryngitis and the flu when the time came to record. In the end, we finished "Supernatural" at the right time and in the right way, I guess! #neverstop
Speaking of works simmering, Aaron and I continue to create our songs for "Intuition." Here is the latest progress report! Are you intrigued? I hope so!! I am starting to think about album artwork... hmmmm... any ideas?
